As I stand here, on a crowded, hotter than hell TTC subway car, on my morning commute to work, all I can think about is “um, I have no idea how to write a blog. Or even write for that matter!” But I’m just goin’ for it. There’s going to be many firsts in these months to come on this new journey. It’s been a dream for a while to be a business owner, be my own boss and still be doing what I love to do. I’m scared, excited, nervous, ecstatic, and all of the mixed emotions you could possibly think of to begin this awesome new chapter in our lives.

“So, Lisa, what’s the dream? Tell me more!” is what I hope you’re thinking! The dream consists of many complex yet simple things. I want to be happy going to work. I want to wake up every morning and look forward to making people’s lives more beautiful and ultimately, make my brides and grooms feel as special as we did on our big day.

A few weeks ago, I asked Steph Hogeboom from Taylor Clark Photography (who I have looked up to since she photographed our wedding) to give me a few tips as I had my first ever engagement shoot and I had no idea what I was doing. Let me just say that when I had asked her for her help I was extremely nervous for some reason. What the heck was she going to think? Was I crazy for asking to pick her brain? I had all of these preconceived notions for some silly reason that asking for help was a sign on weakness. But, Steph, the sweetheart that she is, took me under her wing and invited us to Kingston so we could shoot together.

So last weekend, with my shaky, nervous hands, we made the drive from Toronto to Kingston. I told Brandon that I was incredibly nervous and I hope I could make her proud. And without hesitation, he says what always makes me feel better. That I had nothing to be afraid of, and everything was going to be ok.

As I listened to Steph talk about photography, I felt the clouds part and the whole idea of owning my own photography business became less terrifying. I had so much fun with her and I can’t thank her enough for taking a chance on me and believing in me.

Without further adieu, here are my favourites from the Kingston shoot. As you will see, Darcy + Matt, the new newlyweds, are absolute beauts, and they made this experience a memorable one. Thanks again you two, for volunteering your time and bods!

Enjoy, and welcome to my blog!
